The Premier League's Three Tiers

There seems to be a trio of distinct battlegroups developing in this season's top flight.

  1. Championship Contenders: The current leading pack are seemingly contending for the top prize.
  2. The Mid-Table Scramble: A very tight group includes several big names, all with aspirations for the European places. Will any string together a consistent form to challenge the elite?
  3. The Relegation Battle: The scrap to stay up probably involves Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and West Ham, with Wolves appearing particularly vulnerable. Clubs such as Brentford or Fulham could also be dragged into the battle.

The Salah Debate Continues

The reaction from the Liverpool forward's explosive interview continues. Opinion is split into two clear camps to the argument. On one hand, has Salah earned the right to voice his frustration as a true club icon? On the other, is boss Arne Slot justified in doing whatever it takes to try to win games?

Views from supporters appears divided:

“As a Manchester United supporter. If I’m not mistaken, Salah was PFA Player of the Year 6 months ago and now he’s chief scapegoat. This is no way to treat a legend of the club.”
“Can we take a moment to have sympathy for Mo Salah? He must have overlooked that he is presently Liverpool's highest ever earning player... A victim, Mo, you are not.”

The big question for the Egyptian king, then? Many think his relationship with the club may now be burned. Could he seek a loan to a club abroad? Might he accept a lucrative offer and head for Saudi Arabia after the AFCON?

Sad News from the Championship

Two Championship matches were abandoned on Saturday.

  • The game between Charlton and Pompey at The Valley was halted in the early stages after a fan was taken ill. It was later confirmed the fan died in hospital.
  • Blackburn Rovers's game against Sheffield Wednesday was also paused and abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Ewood Park. Torrential rain – for the second time this season at the ground – made the pitch unsuitable.

There is no word yet on when these matches will be replayed.
